Hangin' Out with Stephen Wright - Week 3
This week, we continued our classes with Stephen Wright, the artist responsible for the House of Dreams Museum. In response to our prior discussions, both on his work specifically and outsider art in general, we as a class made our own art. Our assignment in terms of the art was to introduce ourselves and paint words that describe who we are as people. I rather dislike writing about myself, so I painted the owl I had seen that weekend and wrote about him.
The next day, we came back to do more art with Stephen Wright. That day, he told me to draw fantasy creatures, which I was very happy to hear because I love drawing animals. For this day I drew my Tree and some adventure-loving bunny rabbits.
I really enjoyed the drawing and painting, it was a lot of fun. Afterward, we visited Stephen Wright's House of Dreams Museum. I thought the museum was really cool. I liked all the colors and textures everywhere in the building. Some parts of it were kinda weird and creepy, but overall I had a good time.
The next day, we went to the Victoria and Albert Museum. At the museum, we viewed the theatre collection, which had lots of costumes and props from plays. Most of the plays I had never really heard of before, but they had some of the costumes from the Lion King there, so that was really cool. Also, the had Bjorn from ABBA's jacket.
After the theatre collection, I found a wall of some of the works of Beatrix Potter. I was really really happy to find this because I really love her books. When I was a baby, my whole nursery and basically all the toys and clothes bought for me before I was born were Peter Rabbit themed, and I basically learned to read from a Beatrix Potter Treasury. Being able to see some of her original work was truly amazing, and it's probably the best thing I've seen in London.
Also, after that, I went through the fashion section with Amber. That was pretty cool too. They had some dolls there.
