Bridges and Markets
This week, Sarah Schroll and I visited the Tower Bridge and Borough Market
Tower Bridge
The tower bridge was completed in 1894. It was made to allow people to cross the Thames closer to the Tower of London. It sits half a mile away from the London Bridge, and many people confuse the two.
In terms of walking, the bridge seems to be used mainly by tourists who come to get a glimpse of the iconic bridge and then cross over to see the Queens Jewels in the Tower of London.
In terms of driving, however, the bridge seems to be used by all manner of people and vehicles, from the standard cars owned by Londoners, to buses, and even an ambulance on its way to an emergency.
Borough Market
Borough Market has been a market since the 1300s, with the current buildings having been created in the 1850s.
It's a food and produce market, with stalls baring a verity of fruits and vegetables, meats, baked goods, and meals from every ethnicity.
The market is full of people both locals and tourists, buying groceries, lunches, and treats.
Also in the market are the people running these stalls.
In Karaway, the Baltic Sweets Shop (highly recommend the chocolate honey cake) the employee informed us she'd been working at the market for over five years. The sweet shop wasn't hers, but she'd always been a part of it and the vision for it.
At So Chocolisious, the employee had been working at the market since he was a child, first at his fathers stall, and now at his daughters. He loves the market because he gets to meet new people from all over.
